Fibromyalgia and Nutrition in Uniontown
People who have fibromyalgia fit a lifestyle pattern. This pattern is what causes the problem. When I outline the lifestyle for one of my patients receiving chiropractic care in Uniontown, they immediately say that's me. The lifestyle looks like this. For breakfast, they either skip breakfast, eat sweets, drink coffee, or all three. Usually, they skip breakfast drink some caffeine, and eat a sweet snack a little later. This starts the adrenal weakening. Repeat this over, and over and soon you will have fibromyalgia. It's that simple. Does everyone get it? No, everyone's body is different.
Fibromyalgia in Uniontown
Fibromyalgia is a combination of 3 conditions happening at the same time.
- A Hypothyroid Effect: The hypothyroid effect does not mean that you will have a low thyroid on blood testing. It may be abnormal, but subclinical ( not showing up on testing). The thyroid hormone may be blocked at the cell level. This is the effect part. The hormone just can't get to where it needs to be.
- A Hypoadrenal Effect: The Hyopadrenal effect can be fatigued, burned out, exhausted, or drained adrenal gland. This can also be the adrenal hormones being blocked at the cell level.
- A Hyperinflammatory Prostaglandin Effect: The Hyperinflammatory prostaglandin effect causes an increase in inflammation and pain.
Why Your Nutrition Is Important
When you skip breakfast the blood sugar levels drop. When you drink caffeine the blood sugar level goes up then it drops. When you eat sweets like pop tarts, toast, and pastries the blood sugar level goes up, and then it drops. The more times the blood sugar level drops the harder the adrenal glands must work. The adrenal glands are doing a job your balanced breakfast with no caffeine should be doing. Coffee and caffeine artificially stimulate the adrenal glands to release cortisol a blood sugar elevator, but at a price. The more caffeine you drink the weaker the adrenal glands get. After a while, the adrenal glands can no longer function to raise blood sugar. It can no longer produce the hormones that reduce stress or maintain blood pressure while active. That's why you get dizzy. The thyroid will try to pick up the slack but most thyroids are weak and not able to do their own job as well as taking on more responsibility.
The thyroid gland begins to weaken as well. Now you have a weak adrenal and a weak thyroid. Remember the sweet snacks full of white flour, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, trans fat, processed oils, and chemicals I can't spell or pronounce. Those things cause pain and inflammation. They cause the inflammatory prostaglandin level to rise. This creates inflammation and pain. It gets progressively worse. It sounds too simple but that's how it works.
The Solution
How do you fix it?
- Eat protein for breakfast with a vegetable or a fruit.
- No caffeine
- No processed white flour, white sugar foods, high fructose corn syrup, processed oils, or MSG.
- Take high quality fish oil or eat fish daily to reduce inflamation.
- Zinc, manganese, chromium, riboflavin, magnesium help to increase the hormone effect at the cell level
- Iodine for the thyroid
- Unrefined sea salt for the adrenal gland
There are several other supplements that I use based on the patient.
This is a good start, if you cannot or will not do this then you may never get over the fibromyalgia.
